NMI, a leading payments enablement technology company, announced the launch of ChipDNA Cloud. As an application programming interface (API), it simplifies EMV (Europay, Mastercard, and Visa) and contactless payments integration for independent sales organizations (ISOs), independent software vendors (ISVs), and merchants.

The latest addition to the ChipDNA payment technology stack is ChipDNA Cloud, which is intended to support sectors needing seamless card-present payments, including healthcare, dental, retail, and more.

For years, integration with payment devices needed SDKs (Software Development Kit) and downloaded device drivers on local machines. This proved cumbersome for developers, as well as time-consuming for local IT teams and small businesses. Those SDKs were counterintuitive to the “no software” SaaS (Software as a Service) industry for cloud-based solution providers.

ChipDNA Cloud was designed to eradicate these integration complexities by reducing these SDKs into a single API. Thus, eventually easing the integration of card-present payments and facilitating the development capital required so that partners can quickly monetize their payments.

ChipDNA Cloud can transform any web-connected device, let that be tablet, desktop, Android, or iOS, into a cloud point-of-sale solution. Thus, instantly modernizing older solutions will help merchants remain competitive in changing markets that prioritize EMV and contactless payments. The platform-agnostic API removes the need for individual SDKs or system updates to be downloaded, simplifying compliance with strict regulations, such as PCI-DSS (Payment Card Industry – Data Security Standard) and HIPAA (Healthcare Information Portability and Accountability Act).

“In the race to deliver safe and speedy checkout experiences as we recover from COVID, many merchants will need to overhaul their payment device strategy to support contactless card reads,” said Jennifer Sherman, SVP of Product at NMI. “For many software solution providers, that means new integrations, new SDKs, new drivers, and new hassles. ChipDNA Cloud removes the complexities of EMV and contactless integrations for ISVs and ISOs, allowing them to deliver a range of secure, in-person payment options to merchants who are hungry for choices as they continue facing decisions that will impact their business continuity.”

Whether or not ISVs are working to boost the new or current business models of retailers, ChipDNA Cloud can be used with minimum development efforts to create an all-in-one omnichannel payment system or expand e-commerce solutions with card options in retail spaces. ChipDNA Cloud can also be used as an off-the-shelf solution, allowing ISOs to initiate payments processing instantly without making use of a single line of code.

“There’s typically some development effort ISV merchants need to complete before they can move forward with the integration,” said Steve Staden, SVP of Product Management at Wind River Financial. “NMI’s ChipDNA Cloud made it easy for our clients to make that move by delivering the EMV cloud solution that they’ve been asking for. It eliminated the need for software installs on every terminal that was previously required with SDKs.”

“ChipDNA Cloud is anticipated to remove 80% of the issues that historically complicated the EMV payment implementation for our ISV clients,” David Anderson, CEO, Preferred Payments. “We’re very excited to be partnering with NMI on integrating this game-changing technology into our card-present solution.”

The API is available with EMV and contactless Ingenico devices, Lane 3000, 5000, and 7000 and certified on TSYS (Total System Services Inc.), along with other significant processors scheduled in Q4.
